Pentax A135/1.8 vs Samyang 135/2

Short question: Which one is the better one?

Can the Pentax justify its price (being almost three times more expensive than the Samyang) or is it mere nostalgia that is the driving force behind it?

Which one would you pick for which reason?

Judging by the Lenstip review of the SamYang 135/2, I'd go for the SamYang. Plus you get a product warranty.

I think these lenses render a little differently, so maybe look at sample photos and decide based on the look that you want. And with 135mm lenses, there is a big premium for even slightly faster aperture, because so many people are seeking the bokeh. Wider aperture, mode aperture blades! But does this really matter so much in the real world? Depends on the user, I guess
Anyway, I've seen some sample shots of the Samyang and they really made me want one. Looks great, its just that 135mm is not really for me and I already have DFA 100mm. But the Samyang 135mm looks like another great prime from that brand

Check it out, but the Samyang website does not list the 135mm for Pentax ... They do show their 100mm for Pentax though.

I bet the A135 is a better lens on FF.

The reviews for the Samyang have been nothing short of exceptional, finding it every bit as good or better than the Canon 135L. Plus the Samyang is shockingly free of CA, which certainly cannot be said for the A135/1.8. Frankly, I'd go for the Samyang, and that is even if they were much closer in price; at the moment it is one of the very best (optically) lenses available for Pentax.

One advantage of the A135 is auto-aperture. I'm guessing, though, you don't buy a f2 lens to stop it down very far. For a third of the price I think the Samyang would be just fine.

In general you pay less for:
1) a 3rd party lens
2) a lens still available
3) a slower lens
4) a lens without a pentax star...

But I wonder if it has to be calibrated like the other 3 Samyang Lenses I own ? Still would go with Samyang if $$$$ was in good supply !

Samyang lenses for Pentax always have auto aperture, I think that has been discussed - stores just use one stock photo for all mounts.

Did no one read the announcement I linked? It is old news and clearly identified the capabilities and the fact this is available in KA mount.

QuoteQuote:
Like most other Samyang primes, this lens supports aperture automation but needs to be focused manually. The Pentax version thus includes an aperture ring with the "A" setting and corresponds to the KA mount designation. This means that the lens is fully compatible not only with the latest Pentax DSLRs, but also film SLRs dating back to the 1970s.

thank you very much for your feedback! I'll go for the Samyang!

And, of course it's available for Pentax. Have a look at the examples at the lens club:
