Would seriously think about 60-250 even if I need to add a bit more to get it.

Other than that from what I already own I'd say if one doesn't have an FAltd yet, he should think seriously to get one.

LBA = lenses only, right?

21/40/70 Limiteds. New, used...doesn't matter. Used and saved some $$$ add the 35 Macro if in budget.

I am culling my photo library right now by lens type and I am starting to see that the majority of my best shots are coming from the DA Ltds over the zooms. The only exception is indoor flash work.

I'd hold onto the money and save up for a D FA 150–450mm. Alternatively, I'd get the 1.4x rear converter and spend the rest on a ColorMunki Photo color calibration system.

A high yield savings bond, CD, or mutual fund.

Why? Let money make money and turn $1k into something more for either the FF body whose price will plummet or a new FF lens which hasn't been announced but will keep its value better.

Samyang 16 f/2 - for night sky and landscape work. About $360.
Pentax HD DA 16-85 WR - a walk-around lens (especially for hiking) superior to my current DA L kit lens. About $560.
Peak Design CapturePro Camera Clip - to attach the camera to my backpack straps when hiking. About $80.

There, $1,000 spent to the last dime.

Probably stick it toward the 150-450 since that would push the remainder down into what I have as a price range. That would push my WR set from the 250 it reaches to right now to 450.

At current interest rates it would take the rest of your life to accumulate enough money to buy the FF - not taking into account general inflation.

With no FF primes on the roadmap (from what I remember)...

The FA 31 still seems a good bet. It is enchanting.

A DA35mm macro limited in silver and a KR Tower Records edition (if such could be found anywhere on the planet). I like taking pictures of flowers very close up, love the images this lens produces, the KR produces sharp images right out of the camera, can use AA batteries, the colors would be in the theme with the usual subjects, and the whole kit would be very light weight and compact, perfect for my 6 mile hikes to and from the local botanic garden. As an added bonus, this focal length is my favorite one for taking pictures of horses at shows. That makes for a very versatile kit for me that is also pleasing to look at and quite different from the run of the mill cameras everyone and his cousin has.
