P67 400mm EDIF + P67 TC or E-mount TC?

I want to shoot my P67 400 EDIF on my NEX-5N but I need some extra reach. My instinct is to get the late P67 TC that's specifically designed for this lens. Is there any reason I should consider using a TC behind the adapter instead of in front of it?

If I read this right you want the adapter between the 400mm lens and the TC? How are you going to mount the a Pentax 6x7 TC to a NEX-5N if the adapter is not common to the body of the camera.

The question is whether I go

Lens -> TC -> Adapter ->Body

or

Lens -> Adapter -> TC -> Body.

I think the TC should be closest to the lens, correct? Is there any technical or optical reason to consider the latter? I don't really use a TC much otherwise so compatibility's not a concern.

I just don't know if there's going to be anything funky going on optically given the extra-long register distance.

Like this?

Pentax 67 lens -> Adapter -> Pentax 67 TC -> Sony NEX 5N

I dunno. I'm still having trouble figuring out how a Pentax 6x7 mount is going to fit to a Sony mount without the adapter or the Pentax 67 TC mount to the Sony end of the adapter.

No, it would be either:

P67 Lens -> P67 TC -> 67-to-Emount adapter -> NEX-5N

or

P67 Lens -> 67-to-Emount adapter -> E-mount TC -> NEX-5N

The former should be the better one optically, correct? More telecentric, etc?

I see. If it were my money, I'd go for the safe bet of

P67 Lens -> P67 TC -> 67-to-Emount adapter -> NEX-5N

But it does raise an interesting question.

Given that the old A series TC were of short and long variants for K mount and the long one's placed the first element of the TC up inside the back of the telephoto lenses to gain advantage of being closer - I would think you are on the right track. I'm not sure there is any advantage in the 2nd approach other than if the E mount TC is superior in some way optically to the older Pentax 6x7 TC.
