70-200mm f2.8 vs 60-250mm f4.0

I was wondering if anyone has both, and what they thought about each compared to each other. My 70-200 rarely leaves my body but, ive had it for 10yrs and its taken a beating. I was considering replacing it with the 60-250. Will i miss the stop?

I had both for a while. I much preferred the 70-200 for the speed, internal zoom, and better magnification at closer focal distances.
Plenty of people love the DA*60-250 though, so don't let me stop you

The nice thing about the 60-250mm is the added zoom range and its optical performance, which is close to superb from end to end. With high-ISO performance improving, it might be a worthwhile lens to upgrade to if you plan to stick to APS-C.

I have sigma 70-200 for many years and then got da 60-250. sigma is heavier and larger. It is sharp form 70-150/170, I need to stop down a little at 200mm end, like 3.2 or 4.
DA 60-250 is sharp from F4, I never need to stop down for sharpness.
So I use DA 60-250 much more than 70-200. I bring a prime (fa 77 or 135) with DA if I need speed. this set maybe still lighter than sigma, just my feeling.

I might have the same sigma model, heavy for sure. 😂 Mine is pretty sharp at 200 f2.8 though

Another plus for the 60-250 is weather resistance. It would be awesome if it were internal focus.....it gets a little unwieldy extended.
But it is a most excellent lens.
I haven't felt much need for a faster lens (though I do have the Tokina in an f2.8, talk about heavy), but I don't shoot sports or indoors.

I have both. One is better outside, the other is better for inside, but both are great and sharp. There is definitely a place for both lenses.

70-200 has one more stop and is less expensive most of the time, is very sharp from f4 onward

60-250 is wider, longer, more compact, lighter, has WR, gives shallower DOF at the tele end, more solidly built, is sharp very from f4 onward

Nuff said.

I have an early sigma APO 70-200/2.8 EX. It is much sharper wide open especially at the long end than the early APO 70-200/2.8 EX DG macro versions

I believe we have the same version. Best optical design. On the latest version Sigma went back to this design. That is why I still keep it.

It is very sharp comparing to other similar lenses at 200mm 2.8, almost prime lens quality. Maybe my standard was set a little high. I usually stop FA 200/2.8 a little for best IQ. But I don't need to stop DA 60-250, FA 300/5.6 or DA 300/4.
