What would you expect the future FF wide angle prime to be roughly?

What would you expect the future FF wide angle prime to be roughly speaking?

Is there one?!

I reckon the "D FA Large diameter wide zoom" may look suspiciously like this though...

24mm. Beyond that, you start getting a lot of distortion.

Why not look to the past for an indication - the old original K mounts... Now the question is if Pentax perceives the need to support the camera body with these focal lengths?
  • 15mm
  • 17mm fisheye
  • 18mm
  • 20mm
  • 24mm
  • 28mm
The need is still there, it's not like the scenes have gone away. The next question is aperture.

I think so too. So far, looks like the 24-70 is identical to the Tamron version. I am trying to figure out if the Pentax 70-200 has any resembelence to the Tamron version.

WTH, after all this wait, the full frame Pentax ends up being a rebadged Tamron! If it were going to be a Tamron, why couldn't they do it sooner? I don't get these guys.

Nobody buys into a camera system to use 3rd party glass IMHO.

Hope to get some proper Pentax stuff with the FF, or else the used FA* market is going to go up I reckon...

The vast majority of people who buy into a camera system never use anything other than the kit lens (or an upgraded kit lens like a 16-85). Or they buy an all-in-one superzoom like the Tamron 18-270...

Pauline Kael, on Nixon versus McGovern

"I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don't know. They're outside my ken. But sometimes when I'm in a theater I can feel them"

I do not mind third party lenses if they are good and much less expensive. The Tamron's new pro zooms are really good. I owned the 24-70VC in my Canon days. It was a fantastic lens for far less $$$ than Canon L glass.

The issue I have with Pentax FF glass is the endless delays and lateness of the lenses coming to market. We have been wanting a pro-class 24-70 from Pentax for some years now. They finally deliver a Tamron for us after all this time. At least the price is semi-resonable. The Tamron version with current rebates is $200 cheaper. Then again there is no K-mount version of the Tamron. All thing being equal, I would not mind paying the $1,300 asking price. Not needing the lens immediately, I would wait for the first wave of rebates to kick in a few months after release. Who knows it might go as low as the Tamron version.

Having not shot full frame for many years, I will need to re-discover what is my favorite wide angle field of view for my current style of photography.

To help with that process, I already own 24mm, 28mm and 35mm primes that are full frame ready in the K mount. I have never liked 21/20mm and wider as they just feel a bit too wide for my tastes.

I am typically not a zoom guy and have no immediate plans to purchase a wide angle zoom.

Once I get the full frame and experiment with my 3 wide angle primes. I may find that I greatly prefer one of them over the others. I will likely keep that prime and then sell the other two primes.

However, if I find that I like more then one of my wide angle primes equally on the full frame, I will seriously consider selling all three of the primes and replacing them with a high quality zoom that covers my preferred wide angle fields of view.
