Thanks Dave, I don't have anything on hand to build a box, and due to my very restricted storage space, I'd have no place to keep it afterwards.

+1 Dave's points re specular highlights. i haven't been able to avoid them either. Play with the angles and some sort of diffuser to reduce..

I found it worthwhile to get one of these:

Best bit is trying to get it back into the stuff sack (u-tube videos helpful)

Thanks! I may get something like that in the future; but since I've already listed a lens, I have to make do with what I have on hand for now.

Yeah, I know all about trying to get something back in a box, sack, etc.!

The polarizer would help if you lit it with polarized light (that is, put polarizing film in front of the light. That's how they take archival photos of art Polarized Light Photography for Art Documentation | Cultural Heritage Science Open Source

all you need is copy paper, Cardboard, baking paper and some tape? you could make one easily!
