Sigma 17-70 HSM on K-5IIs

Hello,

I have been using a Sigma 17-70 MACRO HSM lens that I got with my older pentax camera with my new K-5IIs. The autofocus never worked and I have been using manual focus all the time. Whenever I try to use autofocus (switch moved to AF on lens and camera), it tries to move and tries to find focus but then quits at some out of focus. Has anyone experience dthis kind of behavior with this sigma lens of any sigma lenses and if so, what was the problem?

thanks

Does the AF work on your old camera? If not, you have a lens problem. I have the 17-70C version and the HSM is fast, quiet, and very reliable. I'm using it on a K5 which is similar. Try the normal stuff like cleaning the contacts on the lens and the camera before sending anything back. Also verify that your battery is fully charged.

I would like to add, sometimes the contacts on the lens can be dirty, or not make a good connection. This could be why the lens will not focus.

It wasn't working on old camera (k-x) either that I bought both used. I sold that camera back then and kept the lens and have been using it with manual focus. Just thought if it might be a problem that other might be having and know what the problem is.

would you hear the motor spin if it were the belt?

I don't think its the drive belt as I don't hear the motor spinning freely but what I do notice is that the focus ring tries to rotate and it does like 5deg of rotation on either side when trying to focus and then quits.
