I have the Tammy and once had the Sigma 2.8 HSM.
The Sigma focusses more silently - that's what makes you believe it's faster.
It is told to be faster is AF-C (which I never use).

The Tammy is obviously sharper at 2.8!
.. and for me the AF is fast enough....
