Need some advice DA* 60-250

Could someone take a look these image and see if this seems normal for the Pentax 60-250. I am trying to see if the copy of this lens is poor. I have attached 2 images one at 60mm and another at 250mm both at ISO 100 1/400th.

the best test I have used for checking decentering is to focus at infinity and point the lens up at the stars. Any stars that are not pinpoints will stand right out. If your lens is decentered, then send it back for an exchange. My first DA* 60-250mm was decentered. My 2nd one is nice and sharp.

To me, the left side is softer on the top image and the right side is softer on the second image.

Is this on a tripod and aligned straight with the flat target surface?

I don't know how much it matters, but your camera may not be exactly perpendicular to the image. The right side looks to be just ever-so-slightly further away -- probably a pixel's difference from one side to the other. (Rotate the image until level and drop some guides on the long gradient bars). Of course it could just be jpeg compression throwing me off????

Regardless, I would not expect that much softness for the slight difference, even at the widest aperture.

The target was pinned to a wall and my camera "K3" was on a tripod. I shot was taken with the timer to reduce shake. I aligned it up by eyeballing the camera, there could be a slight angle distortion. Although the softness just seems to be more than I would expect from a DA* lens. I want to send this back to Pentax but I assume I will have to send it to there repair service that they use.

Did you focus by using liveview with high magnification?

If you have it on a tripod, mounted to the lens, rotate the camera 180 degrees on the lens ring so it is upside down and take a second shot. If you are not perfectly aligned to the target one side can be soft. If it is the lens the soft side will rotate as well, if you are misaligned it will not.

Take a look at this photo, Tripod was used, remote shutter everything I could think of to get no camera shake. Am I doing something wrong or is this lens just a bad copy, I have not had much luck getting sharp images out of it.
