DA 40 hood

i got the DA 40 LE for a while. i like it a lot except the hood. I just wonder any replacement for that? I heard someone said a DA 21's hood can be used. Can I get it via Pentax Japan? (i live in Hong Kong and one of my friend will go to Japan this month)

What problems are you having with the hood? The hood itself does a good job of protecting the lens IMHO. I'll agree that the screw in cap is a pain to use. I pulled it off as soon as I got the lens and put it away. Then grabbed a 35mm film canister lid and inserted it in the old caps place. Fits perfectly, and easy to remove and replace.

I took out the metal hood and screwed a 49 to 52mm step up ring into it. Then, I was able to use all the lens caps and filters from my kit lenses with it.

I believe any 35mm film canister lid will work. Mine is from a generic brand of film, and the lid fits perfectly. If you have a 35mm film camera, you may have one laying around already..... And if not cheap film is, well, cheap. And you will get the lid, and some film to shoot off.

Edit: Maybe I'll say most 35mm film canisters will work. I was just looking at a Kodak film canister, and it is not the right type.
