Sigma and Tamron Users

Was wondering if any of you guys/gals have used or own either of these lenses? Sigma 24-70mm 2.8, 28-70mm 2.8, and Tamron 28-75. Wondering your likes and dislikes. How do you like IQ, etc etc...

I want to use this lens for a all around lens(walk-around/vacation/ and som concert shots).

Any info would be helpful, Thanks in Advance

Tamron 28-75

I have the Tamron 28-75. An incredibly and brutally sharp lens. Unfortunately I don't have it for my K10D. I have it for my Canon system...Get it. It is better than the Canon 28-70...

Here is a sample from the Tamron lens for "All Access Magazine"

I have a 28-105 tamron, I know, not what you asked about, but it's my favorite lens. Even witht he 2x conveerter it's as sharp as the kit lens, I think. For a walk around lens you might want something with a longer zoom. As for concerts, I think anything slower than 2.8 won't do you much good......

I've used the Tamron 28-75 for a few weddings and some commercial work a few years ago when I was shooting with Nikon DSLRs. At that time I wanted a standard zoom that could give me a little more on the wide end than 28mm (42mm on digital). That's when I first got my hands on the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 EX DG lens.

I fell in love with the Sigma as soon as I reviewed my first photos taken with that lens. When I switched to Canon last year the Sigma was the first lens I bought for the Canon mount. When I was considering switching to Pentax the Sigma was one of the first lenses I bought for the Pentax mount.

When my daughter was born last year I wanted to travel light but still wanted versatility, so I brought my Pentax DL and the Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG to the hospital. It was the perfect combo for my needs. The Sigma is also my go-to lens for weddings and whenever I need a short portrait lens in the studio.

Right now I have a manual 50mm 1.7, 28mm 2.8, and a 135mm 2.8 that I used this past weekend to shoot some shots. I also have a 2x conveter I use on the 135mm.

The 28mm did pretty good for the lighting in the pub I was at. I have a few pics posted on a thread. and a fe on my flickr page. I have alot more I need to resize and get up.

In a recent thread i posted, i was given some advice to look at the Tokina 28-80mm f2.8 AT-X Pro.

I did some research on it and it seems to be the best thing in that range. Its a little more expensive compared to the Sigma and Tamron, but from what ive seen its worth it.

Take a look at THIS side by side comparison of the tokina and sigma.

I was given the same advice on another forum. But the lens seems to be discontinued and hard to find.

I have used the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for a year and a half; I love it. It produces sharp images yet is not too heavy. Many of my gallery photos were taken with this lens.

The images from the Sigma in this "test" are so bad that I can only assume there was a problem with the sample used for the test.

I've had three Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG lenses for three different mounts now and none of them produced images as bad as what I see in that test. If the lens was that bad Sigma would have pulled every copy of the lens from store shelves.
