What lens for the fair?

I'm taking the kids to the fair tonight. I plan to bring my K-5ii but just one lens. Wondering what others would choose?

The 17-50 or 16-50 both sound like they'd be a good choice.

I was thinking of the 16-50 because it's weather resistant. Not that we're expecting rain or anything. But just in case.

I think the 16-50, 17-50 choices are good. I'm also partial to the 40xs - because it would give you a very light kit and something that would not spook people. It really depends on the type of photos you want. People up close and personal - 40xs. Wide shots of lights and rides would need the zooms. Mix of both means zooms as well.

I would suggest fast ish and wide, for me that would probably my "Good Lady” (SMC Pentax-A 20mm F2.8).

Out of your selection I would take your "Special Lady"...

I think you'd find her a tad to tight on the width.

There's something I like about 50mm not too wide or skinny...

X 2. You'll want a lens that can be both a portrait lens...to get some pix of the kids and then wide angle to get some pics of the fair, the boohs, attractins, ferris wheel , rides, etc. I would go with a fast lens and F 2.8 is good.

FA28-90 in your signature line is not the greatest Pentax ever made, but I find it good as a lightweight casual lens with a reasonable wide-short tele range. However, if distances will be short then I second the suggestion of 40mm pancake.

I use the DA* 16-50 for my walkabout when I only want to carry one lens. It's big and with the K3 and grip a bit heavy but it gets the shot.

Well I'm still learning to use mine & my K-5ii. I don't expect to get a lot of useful shots mostly because I'm still in "well, crap. That didn't quite work out" kind of mode.
