FA50/1.4 lens hood - what does it look like?

I don't have the lens hood for my FA50/1.4. Can someone show me what one looks like on & off the lens? Is there a Pentax part# for it? I'd like to get one but have seen round & rectangular ones & don't know what to get.

I rented one a while back. The one I got included in the package was I think from B&H and was a cheesy snap-on square one...rotated and fell off easily, very goofy. I probably could have lived without it.

It's on my avatar pic actually.

The round one is like this, with 49mm thread. The square one is probably newer.

I purchased the snap-on square hood from B&H. The markings say it's made by Pentax for the 50mm 1:1.4 and 1:1.7. It came in a leather case. The mounting method (push clips) does seem a little cheezy, but I've had no trouble attaching or detaching it, and it has never fallen off. I would prefer a conventional mounting arrangement, but I love the odd sort of retro look of the square hood. No way I'd trade it for the round version.

My FA50 didn't come with a hood (or a pouch, for that matter) - but for the price/value, who cares?

I have a 49mm round screw-in hood, a round plastic clip-on and a rectangular plastic clip-on from the M days - they all work fine, and can be had for a few dollars on an auction site.

Arthur,
Since the field of view on a DSLR is only 32 degrees, rather then 46 degrees on a film camera, you can use just about any 49mm hood. I use a streight cut Kinko hood of about 7/8ths deep. Works great. I often use step-down rings to standardize lenses with 52mm hoods. The crop factor elimitates any vignetting tendency.

Clip-on Hood for Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4

Hi Arthur,

You were curious what the Pentax hood for your FA 50 looks like.

Boz Dimitrovís site list lens hoods for the FA 50/1.4. The stock rectangular hood appears to be the clip-on PH-SA49. Examples of the round screw in type are seen in posts above.

FA 50/1.4

I donít have this exact hood but suspect it is identical to the Pentax PH-S49 I bought for my M series 50mm f/1.4. Here are a couple of shots of this hood on the M 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tom G
