I am currently in a state of lens consolidation/downsizing.
I have previously being carrying around the following in a backpack, and its not always the weight but more of carrying around lots of primes and spending a lot of time changing lenses:
DA10-17
FA*24 or FA20-35
FA43
VL58
FA135
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8
To carrying this:
DA10-17
FA*24
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8
Sigma 85mm f1.4
(The FA43 will be kept to go with my MZ-S, where it lives most of the time anyway)
I am selling the FA20-35, VL58 and FA135, and possibly the FA*24 if I find a replacement. I do love the FA*24 but I do worry about damaging it as its essentially mint condition other than a small nick on the hood. The Lens itself is sharp enough, certainly wide open in the centre.
I would love to replace the FA20-35, FA*24, FA43, VL58 and the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 with a single lens. I know I would be missing out on some of the fast primes but a decent f2.8 to cover all those focal lengths (save for the really wide end) would be ideal.
I have been looking at the new D-FA 24-70mm f2.8, which I think would be ideal but its just a bit too much really at £1149, and the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 HSM is £449, a lot cheaper but not very good wide open, especially so on the long end. A silent motor is essential, as is the extra reach on the long end over a 16-50mm. There is the DA16-85 as well, which is the same price as the Sigma, at £499, but I would ideally like f2.8.
So, my main question is:
Has anyone compared the FA*24 to the 24mm end of the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 HSM or the new Pentax D-FA 24-70mm f2.8 (long shot I know)?
