Is the Sigma 150-500 still in production for Pentax mount? All I find for it are used listings.
I don't think it is, Sigma 50-500 is still in production (I believe).

No it was discontinued when the new 150-600 came out which is not available in K mount. The only choice you have now for new is the 50-500. The 150-450 is $400 more than the Bigma.

Sigma 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 OS HSM

Is anyone using the Sigma 50-500? What can you tell me. I have read many reviews and other than the weight, it seems to be a good lens.

Thanks!

Kathy

I have the newer OS version and yes it is big and heavy. It is not the sharpest lens out there but it will give nice results if you have the patience to learn. There is a dedictated club for the longer Sigma zooms here --> https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/279007-sigma-telephoto-zoom-club.html

Bigmas (AKA 50-500's) are light hogs, they need lots of it, but the newer bodies are capable of shooting all the way up to ISO 3200 with no problem.
50-500 @ 370 o the K3

ISO 1600 500mm 1/100s hand held, this were Optical stabilization rules.

Used a 50~500 for years until the Pentax 150~450 came out, then I let it go to another Pentaxian. Things about it (IMHO): 1) very good up to about 350mm, a bit soft at the long end; 2) actual maximum FL is closer to 450mm than 500mm (=about 10% exaggeration by SIgma); 3) if you fill the frame (=no cropping) images taken @ max FL are fine, especially if you stop down to f8~11; 4) it is heavy (what can be expected of a lens that is longer than 400mm?), but fairly compact when not zoomed out, so not too much problem for transport (used my on an African tour - no problem).; 5) happier on a tripod than hand held (both the lens and you).

Both the 50~500 and less commonly the 150~500 can be had at good prices second hand.

Other long lenses available used only: 1) SMCA 400mm f5.6 (best stopped down to f8~11; 2) Tamron 400mm f4 (an excellent 400mm despite the age of the design, there was one on offer in the PF MARKETPLACE at least up to a few days back).

Another alternative: Very clean examples of the Nikon 600mm f5.6 are available on EBAY for competitive prices. IF you are doing wildlife, especially small birds, you will not need to focus to infinity, so this lens could be mounted on a Pentax body using a no-lens Nikon-to-Pentax adapter available on EBAY. I don't know what the greatest focus distance would be with this adapter, but I suspect it would be at least 75 yards/meters, much farther away than is practical for bird photography.

Or the Adaptist Multi-mount and keep infinity focus. Though it makes a WR camera less than WR.
