Various old lenses, will they work?

Hello,

I have just purchased a Pentax 200D and would like to know if any of the lenses I have from my Program A's and ME Super will work with this lovely camera.
Also what would I need to do to get them to work?

The first is

A Sears Multi coated 80- 200mm Auto Zoom 1:4.0 it has an A in brackets

A Takumar ( Bayonet) 135mm 1:2.5 - quite fond of this lens.

2 x SMC Pentax A 50mm 1:1.7

any help would be very much appreciated

yes

once you have the camera switched on to allow aperture being set by the lens you can use any manual lens on the camera.

MrApollinax's link is excellent. The short answer to your question is any old Pentax bayonet lens will work on the camera, period. Some may require manual settings. Even the old screw mount lenses will work with an adapter.

One the beautiful things about Pentax!

Woo hoo !! Another Missourian ( no idea where Weston is though ) , welcome to the forums Chris. You can definitely use all of those on there, and especially the A 50 F1.7, that is a really popular lens , sharp, and really nice.

I did something wrong

Well I tried the method to find the meter reading and it didnt change the speed, infact I even tried the method with an A lens and a straight manual lens both didnt read the light - have I missed something?

I think I found the error, on the 200D there is a green button next to the shutter, if you press this it steps down the lens to the correct shutter speed in manual mode, and then it appears to work , rather than use the Ae-L button which doesnt work.

I have a sears 80-200mm Auto Zoom that has a KR mount (sear term). I bought it new 20 years ago and used it on my K1000, Chinon CP-7m and P3 without in problems. It won't work with my K200D. I suspect it has something to do with the Ricoh. I have 2 other sears lens that about about the same time, both 135mm. One works fine on my K200D, the other one doesn't. Sears lens had a mount that they referred to as KR in reference that they were supposed to work in program mode for Pentax KA and Ricoh RK. I actually like the 135s but have never got the best results out of the 80-200mm.

Other lens that I tried and work o.k. with it include my Tokina 400mm 5.6, SMC A 400mm F5.6, SMC A 50mm, several Tamron Adaptall with pk adapter (pka adapter will be more compatible). I have also used my m42 lenses o.k, macro-takumar 50mm (true 1:1) and two 55mm F1.8 (Super tak and SMC tak) with no problems.

I didn't realize that the 200D has a green button. This is a holdover from the K10D. The green button on your camera will function as the AE-L button would on my K100DS

If you like manual focus, grab one of those Pentax A series 50mm 1.7 lenses. You will NOT be let down. Fantastic fast 50.

I also have an A series 50mm 2.0 for $40 if you are unsure of the condition of those 1.7s. The 2.0 is also a great lens. The A setting allows use of all automatic program, picture, and scene modes, and use of the flash (auto sync). Both the 1.7 & 2.0 will net you some beautiful crystal clear pictures worthy of the K200.
