Thank you!

You might find a new one being sold by a member here on Marketplace at a very good price; that was part of this deal, and they already have one.

Beautiful shot Carol, I lIke the contrast of the snow on the trees. It is a great little lens. For those wondering, here is one at f1.8. One of the first shots I ever took with mine. Just a quick test shot of my dog, the focus point is her nise.

Good god, it's a mop with a nose and teeth! (Only joking; ours are not much different when they're at their shaggiest.)

Beautiful shot, Carol! I bought the DA 50/1.8 last summer when I saw it for a good price. It's incredibly sharp, even wide open. I bought it primarily for low light indoor shots but it does a fine job with outdoor landscapes too. As for the f/8 comment, how else are you going to shoot a scene like that? I probably would have stopped down even more but f/8 was a good choice. While I have never knocked the 18-55 kit lens except for flare issues, I doubt the kit lens would have been as crisp looking on that scene, even at f/8.
BTW, I rarely shoot any of my fast lenses wide open unless the light and/or scene demand it. DOF is too narrow and focus is critical. F/1.8 is nice to have though, when you need it. Enjoy the lens!

I gave my DA 50 f1.8 to a friend. I miss it sometimes, even though I have the FA 43 and FA 77. It's amazing for a budget lens.

As for the aperture, f8 is just about the sharpest point for this lens, at both the centre and edge. (See the chart: https://www.ephotozine.com/article/pentax-smc-da-50mm-f-1-8-lens-review-20006) I think f8 (or even f11) was ideal setting for Carol's landscape shot.
