Anyone use 1930s folder camera lenses?

Its kind of a hipster thing in the canikon realm, thought i'd give it a try. Picked up a 105mm f3.5 Novar from an old Zeiss Ikon. Don't have samples yet...

I use a 1947 Kodak Anastigmat 50mm/3.5 taken from a Kodak 35RF and love its vintage rendering style. I haven't tried any folding camera lenses yet, but it should certainly be possible using bellows or extension tubes. Sounds like a fun project. I'll have to keep my eyes open for any non-working old folders that I can cannibalise without feeling guilty.

I used an old m42 extension tube for the mount and some pvc for extension. I managed trim to get infinity but its a mm or two before stop. Still on mobile i'll upload some pics soon. Yes its uncoated and flares easy, I am surprised by the center sharpness wide open. I cant imagine what focusing at f3.5 wouldve been like without a range finder.

Here's phone shot of setup and a quick f3.5 shot. The metering is a bit inaccurate. Would like to find some vintage film post presets.

There's a free plug-in called Virtual Photographer that can do basic film simulation: Welcome to optikVerve Labs - Community But I usually use Alien Skin Exposure, which gives much more sophisticated results but is quite expensive these days. Vintage lenses tend to give a great look without the need for film simulation, so I use it very rarely and usually only with B&W.

That f3.5 shot looks good, with exactly the vintage rendering that you'd hope for. I'm looking forward to seeing some shots with the Zeiss stopped down.

Here's a couple of samples with my Kodak Anastigmat:

I used an Asahi-Kogaku 7,5cm f/3.5 T-Takumar a while ago on my K-7. It's probably a Tessar-type triplet (hence the "T") as most folders of that period seem to have.
It came off an (already disassembled) Takane Minesix Super 66 from 1957 (last photo, different copy of the camera).

Had some decent weather and took an outside shot with the Novar/Zeiss at f/11. It's uncoated 3 element design.

Nice to come across this vintage thread - Excellent shots.
Asahiflex, I love your portrait shots- they have been an inspiration to me.
Because of you, mostly, I bought a FA*85 and it has been giving me keepers almost all the time. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, nice photos, I like the look. Also really like that Zeiss lens.

The best of the 2 folders I have is a Kodak Monitor Model Six-20 with a 105mm f4.5 lens. I had contemplated putting some film in it, but the bellows are leaky. The lens is very clean, the aperture blades are good and mechanically it is in pretty good shape, so this has good potential! I will put this on the "bench" to work on, will probably be a while, though...
