Sigma 10-20 4 vs 3.5

Deciding which one to get.
Is the half step more worth the price difference? I red the shootout here, but there is not a clear and definitive answer about this.
What's your take as "real life" users?

Thanx

L.

In a nutshell: No.

You're going to be using it at f/8~f/11 to get the most consistent image quality throughout the zoom range across the frame, these lenses are so wide that a 1/2 stop difference in aperture isn't going to make a difference when light levels drop. I can hand hold my Sigma 8-16mm at 1/2 second at 8mm without issue.

I have the f/4-5.6 version. I have never needed it to be faster.

The other difference is the HSM in the 3.5 versus the screwdrive mechanism in the variable aperture version.

For such a wide lens, though, I think this is negligible. ..unless you absolutely need the quietness.

Hi
After my own deliberation, I chose the constant aperture model after the price dropped and am very happy having f-3.5 at all focal lengths (don't have to "get by" with f-5.6). I prefer silent focus and the 3.5 is fast enough for milky way shots. I have no particular expertise - just enjoy getting out experiencing nature and learning to "see." Choose which one will best meet your intended use. I'm pretty sure either will give you good results.

I've had the 4-5.6 version for many years and I like it. I did see there is currently a $200 rebate for the 3.5 version which brings it close in price to the older version, but everything I've read shows the slower version performs perhaps better in IQ.

I wanted the constant aperture of the 3.5 and have enjoyed the lens very much. It's surprised me with fantastic image quality and, thus, I use it often. In fact, my 15 ltd is getting kind of lonely from decreasd use. The 10-20 is that good.

I no longer see the 4-5.6 version. It appears this lens is being replaced with a newer version. Lately very Sigma lenses are being offered in K mount. It will sad to no longer see this available. I have thought of getting one myself. I hope they are still around when I can afford one.
