The biggest problem with my DA*60-250 is, I try and use it when I should be using another lens, just because I like it so much.
Me too, and then I put on the 1.4 TC just for grins. Love this lens.

For objects close to the camera, the reach of the 60-250 is rather disappointing. The 250mm internal focus, is about equivalent to 135mm exterior focus,it's very good for landscape where your subject is closer to infinity.
Thanks Norm, I will keep that in mind. For closer shots I will probably use my 50-135. I have decent results with so far.

Michael, a big Congratulations! You've upped the bar for your photos now! Can't wait to see some of them with this new beauty!
Thanks Carol, my 55-300 HD is getting nervous. It is possible there may be on the marketplace for a very nice price.

I rarely even try and shoot birds without the 1.4 TC. That's what happens, you just buy the lens, now you need the TC. Then you need the 150-450 then the 560. It never ends.

Yup I found that out too. First had a 200mm, then 300mm, then 400mm. Got my Bigma for 500mm and thought well this should do it. Nope, birds are small, very small, 500mm doesn't seem so long anymore.

Drooling all over it, I would certainly give it a nice home!

Thanks Scorpio71GR.
I have been watching the price on this lens for a long time now. I thought B&H went back to $1200. on this until I saw your post. Received my rebate from an earlier purchase on a K3ii so pulled the trigger on the lense .

After watching the fluctuating prices of the DA*60-250 I finally decided to go drag my wallet out of its hiding place. B&H had the price down to $877. I can remember when that was a good price used. Then I glanced at the used section and noticed they had one for $699 with a 9 grade, box included. Both had free expidited shiping. I decided to save $177 and go for the used one. If B&H rated this at 9 I am sure it is in great condition. I have been wanting this lens for years. My 55-300 is already getting nervous. Since I decided to use my rarely used PayPal creditI will be selling a few of my older lenses. The lens will be here Tuesday.
I did almost the same thing -- except I bought one new for $877 from Amazon -- the most money I ever spent on a lens. It's due on Monday, December 7th. I hope that's not an ominous sign.

Congratulations, I had one in my cart too. Then I decided to get the used one. This lens has a very good reputation and with a rating of 9 I decided to chance it. Mine will arrive Tuesday. That was unbelievable price for new. It was only reason the used price was slow low. The used price was %20 off. I can't wait to use it.

I only have the Tamaron 1.4 converter. I hope it works ok. I guess I better start saving for the Pentax one. Does the Pentax converter report the right focal length for SR?

MY DA*60-250 remains the most money I've spent on apiece of camera equipment, except for my original *ist.

How would this work with the 55-300?

I think the 55-300 is pretty slow for a TC. I know others have tried. The 55-300 already hunts like an old hound dog. You would need really bright light and most likely have to shoot wide open. On the K3 I think you would just be better off cropping. Honestly I have never tried it. I could try a some shots and let you know. When I use the TC on my Bigma autofocus is useless and I have to focus manually.

Thanks Michael, I was just curious! It's amazing the cropping ability with the K3!

I did try the HD 1.4 TC with my 55-300, and yes, cropping was better than the result of that combination. The focusing locked on better than I expected, though - the K-3 focuses amazingly well in low light.

I almost got myself a 60-250, too, but I resisted. The price this side of the pond is rather steep - around 1,500 US$ new. (That does include a 5 year warranty, though.)

Thanks, that confirms that it's best not to use a TC with the 55-300. I must say, I'm very impressed with the quality of the crops with the K3 and the 55-300!
