A stunning photo. We are at last getting some rain in here in Southern California and there is a small reservoir nearby that ducks and other water birds like to use. I have a strong urge now to take my 60-250 down there and try my hand. I checked some of your past photos with your 55-300 and though there can be any number of differences in circumstances the one you just posted using the 60-250 seems superior. Is that your opinion too?

Thank you for kind words Lawrence. The 55-300 is no way a comparison to the 60-250. In my opinion they are just completely different lenses. I have the 55-300 HD WR version which I feel is very good especially for flare resistance. My copy has to be stopped down to at least f8 for decent results. The plus side is that it is light weight, portable, and can easily fit in a camera bag. The 60-250 is big, heavy, and not so much portable. However mine is sharp right at f4, it works with 1.4 TC, and it gives me excellent results. For serious shots I will go with the 60-250 and probably the 1.4 TC. For a casual hike or walk I will stick with my lightweight setup, 18-135 and 55-300.
