Open Box Item and Pentax Rebate

The local Circuit City has a DA 50-200 for $169.95. The front and back glass appear to be perfect. This lens was the store display and has the box and all packaging materials and the original UPC in intact.

I wonder if Pentax would pay the $50 rebate if I purchased this lens?

What's the worst thing that could happen?

You don't get the rebate and end up paying only $169 for the lens which is about the same price you'd get a brand new on from one of the mail order houses.

If you get the rebate, you have a bargain.

i dont think it should matter if that lens is included in the rebate, unless they dont allow open box items (check the ultra fine print in the rebate if any...)as long as you have the upc and receipt, then they honor it

I doubt the receipt would show open box anyway, so Pentax should honor the rebate without caring what Circuit City sold it for.
