Vivitar series-1 105mm f/2.8

Hadn't taken this baby off the shelf in a while...

These are truly 'snapshot-quality' images, and no real 1-1 macro - taken in about
20 mins at ISO 400 in fading light, handheld, 1/30 to 1/90s - conditions that
probably show this lens at 60% of it's potential IQ.

Even at 60%, I likey.

This one was actually taken earlier in the day:

For comparison, here's one taken with the DA 35ltd macro, ISO 800:

And the same flower with the FA 50 1.7 at maximum magnification & f/2.8 - the
focus was on the lower group of buds:

i've loved mine since day one. here's one w/a 2x TC and 63mm of ETs. probably around 5:1. it's really a dangerous set but not if you're careful..

I have the 90mm 2.5 and the matching 2x MC TC... what settings do you guys use to get enough light for the shots to show up? I just got my K20D so If that will help with the settings.

Why oh why do I look at these? #4 is my fave just because of the color contrasts and the absolute dreamyness of the bokeh. Beautiful shots everyone!

Nice shots folks.

I agree, Vivitar did themselves proud with the Series-1 line, especially
the 105.

#3 was taken earlier in the day, and its at ISO 100, some pretty fast shutter
speed (I''ll have to check, flickr doesn't preserve EXIF...) So it's pretty much
what you can expect from the Viv 105, even with casual handheld shooting.
the others are ISO 400 or 800, and slow shutter speeds (taken in early evening.)

Salty, I like #4 the best also - although #3 is a macro stunner, #4's colors and
bokeh very pleasing to me. Good lenses can show the 'translucency' of foliage
like that - subtle color variance that can show the actual texture of the plant material.

BTW, If you look at the bokeh in #5, the shot taken with the DA 35ltd, you'll see
the aperture blade pattern in the circles - not quite as good as the 105's bokeh.
