For general indoor photos with out a flash, bump the ISO up.

If you would want to use a flash, you can take the ISO down to 100-400 range and be fine.

A lot will depend on what your subject is and how much light you have to work with.

It depends upon what sport, how fast is the game and where you shoot. I often shoot volleyball. I can typically shoot from behind the 2nd referee or from behind the substitute bench. My preferred focal lengths are then 50mm to 90 mm. Importantly I use fast lenses (f1.8 or better f1.4). My preference goes to fast MF lenses (VL58mm f1.4, CZ85mm f1.4). I prefer MF primes because AF at high-shutter speed and moderate lighting is not also fast enough. (Zoom lenses are even worth.) In MF, I pre-focus the lens with distance and I shoot Hi-continuous shooting (8.3 fps with K-3).
As indicated I'm using the fast focusing FA 50/1.7, in addition my DA 70/2.4 and occasionally even the D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro, in "semi-manual" mode, as e.g. in the example from the 2015 Indoor Hockey World Cup. Indoor hockey just moves way to fast all across the field for a single focal length and is often played in tighter spaces, and I'm usually shooting 1-3m from the side line.
