After reading this thread, i'm curious - what does a FF offer that a K-3 (ii) can't satisfy in your photography? Lowlight? DOF?

Lookout, you may get Jay, OSV and El J running in to tell you you're a failure with your APS-C toy. 😀

24-70mm DFA - how will it integrate into your lineup?

Are you planning to get it?

-How will it integrate into you crop sensor lens lineup? (will you sell something to make space... what lenses will you use either side etc..)
or
-How do you envisage it integrating into your potential FF lineup?
Have the DA* 16-50mm but about half the time I'm using the lens at the long end of the range (35-50mm) and wishing for a little more reach. I'm waiting for the price to come down to < $1K before buying. I don't understand folks who say it's not 'useful' on an APS-C - it would be the same FOV as a 35-105mm zoom on a full frame, and I liked that range just fine. Also hoping the rumors of a Pentax-branded 15-30mm/f2.8 are true.

Sorry to disappoint, Imp, but I also shoot FF (A7) and 1" (Samsung Mini-NX). :-)

So what IS the big deal with FF then?

I like it for landscapes with a bit better dynamic range, and the artsy shallow DoF shots that you either love or loathe.

APS-C gives me a nice broader DoF for individual and group portraits, and better reach for wildlife, action and macro.

I generally use K-mount lenses on both for financial reasons. Manual focus is a deal breaker only in some scenarios.

It probably will drop a little, but not that much. I haven't seen the Tamron version of this lens much below 1100 for other mounts. Assuming Pentax is making a little profit on it as well, it seems as though the retail price will stay a little north of there.

I see the DFA 24-70, as well as the two other f2.8 zooms (and the DFA fast primes that will likely be introduced in the next few years) as filling a gaping hole in the Pentax lineup. For those who like shooting hand-held in low light and/or seek narrow depth of field, these fast lenses, when combined with the FF sensor, should cover this type of shooting once and for all. But as I'm not a hand-held low light shooter, or a narrow DOF junkie, this DFA 24-70, as good as it is and as badly as its needed, just does not fit my shooting style. The APS-C centric DA lineup has the lenses that fit my shooting style; and for this reason I'll be sticking with APS-C for the nonce.

I honestly dont think that the price will drop in a while.. Canon version is at $1275 .. Nikon at $1270.. both came to the market during 2012... Sony at $1300 (almost the same as the Pentax ) ..

Many people will look for this lens after the FF is release, so my guess is that demand will no drop in the near future.

For my taste, 24mm on APS-C is too long of a starting point. Heck I don't even like 18mm and much prefer the 16mm wide end. There are (were?) 35-70mm zooms available for FF, and if that was your cup o tea, then the 24-70mm would be fine.

BH has it for $1099 at the moment, and I saw it dip to $999 on occasion. If you go grey market, it's available for <$900 right now. I'd probably wait for a <$1000 price before buying.

True, but thats a season promo that will end the 31st.. after that the price will go the same as the others $1299 ... after 3 years in the market.. IMO, is hard for it to come down in within the next year, it might.. but judging by the prices at Amazon, BnH or Adorama. prices are the same as when it came out.
