The Pentax M42 Adapter has gone from $44 to $60.00 on B&H and from $39 on Amazon to $69.99 ! Not sure what these people are smoking...

I think they're out of production and supply is low. It's unfortunate considering a couple of years ago they were 30$. If you're lucky you can find them on Ebay for cheap.

Ricoh may have increased the retail price in anticipation of the Full Frame body release. Used prices were averaging in the 40-50 USD range until the adapters have been available once more from Adorama and B&H. Most of this year you could pick the adapters up used for under $35 USD.

They are still $45 on Adorama. For some reason, they seem to often be less than competitors on that adapter (I got mine about a year and a half ago from them for $30, when BH had them at $50).

There are a number for sale on the used section. I'm really kicking myself I bought one new. As long as the threads are okay, this is probably the safest used purchase you could ever make.

As there is no transfer of information between lens and camera (no contacts) through the adapter I would not buy the original one at those prices. I own a copy of the original, but if I need more I would buy them on amazon for 8 $. Have a look here. EDIT: Be aware that the adapter should become flush with the body when mounted for lenses ability to reach infinite focus. The "DSLRKIT Pentax M42 42mm to PK K Mount Adapter Infinity focus" looks fine to me. It is apparently also the cheapest at 7.90 $.
