Lenses Used?

Well, with the family out and 110/43 degrees outside I had nothing better to do than sum up what lenses I used in the first six months of 2008. What became (too) obvious is that the Limiteds are a poor return on investment! Would I part with them? No way!!

Anybody else wants to join?

I guess some of my limiteds and K and M lenses don't get used as much as my other lenses or zooms do. But I would probably do a different chart where it's broken down by purpose or type of photography. For instance my art and macro photos use my K & M lenses more than any other lens, and studio portraits use my limiteds more than other lenses. I suppose it's all relevant to the type and amount of photography I've been doing.

Nor have I and I enjoy my hobby just as much as anyone else here.
1 body and 1 lens is all you need as long as you have a little talent

Redo the numbers with the number of keepers and see how well the Limiteds did.

Very nice set of lenses!

You definitely need to send me that A* 85 1.4, though. Look at it, sitting at the bottom there, one of Pentax's best lenses! I'll put it to good use.

It looks like about 40% of my Pentax shots are with the 50-135 zoom
and about 35% are with my Sigma 24-60. And the rest with my primes. Seems like I use the zooms more than anything else, and definitely when I grab my camera when I'm heading out the door. (something I do more of now with the K20D than I did with my Canon) And the primes for specific shots. Looks like from this analysis, my next purchase should be a high quality wide-normal zoom.

Why have a boatload of equipment worth thousands that rarely gets used? I don't understand.

Please run the same script on your shots and let me have the pick of your bottom 5 ;P

The Limited's have their place for special occasions and when you have time to work slowly. They generally outperform the zooms. You can find examples in the galleries from various forum users.

Then, of course, there is LBA. It is just so nice to own something of optical and mechanical quality!

This is from the list of exif data I maintain, so it is pretty much the keepers.

Pentax 12-24: (47%). I use this at museums, car shows, street shots, etc. If I only take one wide, this is it.

Sigma 18-50: (17%). If I take only one lens, this is usually it.

Sigma 70-300 (12%): What can I say, it is the longest FL. Replacing with a Pentax 55-300, though.

Canon S3: (9%). For when I'm not bringing a DSLR.

Pentax 10-17: (8%). Gotta have one.

Pentax 50-200: (4%). Sort of the odd man out of the line up. I think I chose the longer Sigma over the slightly better IQ, when I just take one telephoto.

Pentax 55-300: (3%). But I've only had it 2 weeks. It has better IQ than the 50-200 or 70-300 which I will sell someday, so it should go up to about 15% maybe.

Fixed focal lenses are nice, and (usually) at their focal length superior to zooms, but zooms are just so much handier to use, so I see no reason to be surprised at you findings.

But I do think you had too much time on your hands!
