Originally posted by skierd I was referring to something in the L glass, sigma art, and nikkor with a constant aperture range.
Originally posted by lytrytyr OK, that would definitely not deserve the "kit lens" stigma.
But it might deserve the label "standard lens" as in the lens bundled with the camera. Then if you want the 24-70 f/2.8 that is an upgrade. I think another wonderful bundle would be a K-1 plus 31, 43, 77 Limiteds. Maybe in a custom box or camera bag.

Originally posted by northcoastgreg I tend to think that existence of a non-star 24-70 f2.8 "flagship" zoom renders a DFA* 24-105 less likely. People would wonder why the only standard zoom Pentax thought worthy of a star was the slower f4 zoom, rather than, as is usually the case, the f2.8 standard.
You might be right, I just find it weird that the 70-200 gets a * but the 24-70 does not. I know why THIS 24-70 doesn't get it but I don't understand why there was not a DFA*24-70. So I can speculate that they reserved the * for a 24-105 that they designed themselves. With the possibility that they will add a fast *24-70ish f/2.8 zoom at some point in the future. But I'm just speculating on things that confuse me.
Personally I would much rather have a 20-35 f/4, 24-105 f/4 and 60-250 f/4 than the f/2.8 equivalents. I don't need the f/2.8 and really don't need the weight. If I need a fast aperture I have small primes for that. But having the 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 f/2.8 in the line is absolutely needed for the FF system. I just hope they also add smaller slower but still pro quality glass to the line.
