I didn't even know they made lenses. Filters yes, I like the quality of Hoya filters muchly, but I can honestly say that this is the first time I ever remember anybody mentioning Hoya lenses.

thx for replying,

I've seen several advertised on ebay now, and they seem to hail from the 'A' series time frame, auto aperture and manual focus...I'll keep you posted when i get the lens and put some shots up

Hoya has supplied lens blanks to other companies for years. In fact, Pentax and Hoya merged in 2007. In fact, Pentax is owned by Hoya and Hoya is the major stock holder in Tokina.

I have a Hoya lens, probably from the 70s. It's an M42 35-105mm f/3.5. It's a beautiful lens, that can also be used for bicep curls. I don't think Hoya makes lenses anymore (they have Tokina and Pentax to do that for them )

If memory serves me correctly they date from a short period late 70s early 80s. I think they were identical to the contemporary Tokina lenses except for a minor (but unusual) cosmetic feature in that although the lens barrels were black, the aperture ring was silvered.

Hoya has also been one of the biggest suppliers of the glass lens blanks used by various manufacturers. Who knows how many lenses are out there that actually have Hoya glass in them.

Indeed! All the ones I've seen have a silver aperture ring.

Dave, let us know if you win the lens, and post some pics of it, and with it :-)

By the way, I'd like to add to my earlier description of the lens, that it is multicoated, and is beautiful to look at through the barrel. I would expect your 135mm f/2.8 to perform quite well.
