Mystery m42 28mm lens

Well,

Today I got a lens without a brand name and serial number. I guess the ring with all this tiny details is missing. Inscription "Lens made in Japan" is there though. It is a 28mm lens. It has been used extensively, and the glass was well taken care of compared to the body, well, at least until a decade or . It's a lot larger and a lot heavier than any other 28mm lens I have. I did not test it yet in the appropriate conditions but I would say it's softer, less contrasty and more prone to flare than my SMC Pentax 28mm f:3.5.
I would like to know more about the origin of this lens so if you know this beast, tell me a thing or two about it.

The pictures of the lens are attached. Pictures made with it will come soon

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Chinon or Soligor to me.... although I could be wrong.

If you look under Vivitar T-4 (or Soligar) and Vivitar T-x lenses you likely will find it.

Thank you for the ideas on where to look for.

MFD of 40cm and a minimum aperture of f/22 limit the choices a bit (by excluding 60 something mm filter thread vivitars) but I am still unsure.
I did find some similar lenses but nothing really like it in terms of appearance.
From where I stand now it is most likely rebranded Chinon (but not a lot of chance) or Sun produced (this is very likely but I still can not trace a similar all metal Sun produced lens). I will nevertheless continue to seek for a definitive answer, even if the final conclusion is that it is a crap lens from the 70s. Which it likely is.

The diamond shape on the DOF scale is probably the best clue - which I think more likely to be a Chinon or rebranded Chinon.

Great remark for the diamond shape, thank you, now I am getting the idea what to look for.

On this link they are discussing some Soligor rebranded lenses and they do connect the diamond symbol to Sun as well.

I guess the lens code would be the deciding factor in this case. Not having it makes the hunt more and more interesting.

I have just measured the filter thread, and it is 67mm! That will have to ring some bells as I do not know many 28mm lenses with this characteristic.

I agree it is rather unusual for a 28/f2.8 lens with large front element in those days; I can see that it might be the case with larger max aperture such as f2 or f2.4. But I think I might have seen one made by vivitar, I am not sure. I have several 28/f2.8 MF lenses with front element (filter size) between 55-62mm. Anyway, enjoy your lens...
