DFA 150-450 (no lens id in EXIF on K5?)

I'm just getting started with the DFA 150-450. It's an exciting step up from a 55-300 but also quite daunting.

One thing I've noticed is that my K5 doesn't seem to identify the lens in EXIF like it does with my other lenses, even after I updated my firmware to the most current version. Not a huge deal unless it will affect the output from the camera in some way, but is there some way to have the camera ID the lens? Could this be a software issue on the computer that needs to be updated? (tried in both Aperture and Photos on a mac, no lens id)

Or is this just Ricoh's way of hinting that I need to update to a newer camera?

Thanks.

I believe that all the lens or the camera provides is an ID number. The software on the computer needs to be up to date to have the latest ID #'s cross referenced to the text name. Try looking at the image in an up to date viewer such as Faststone, that should show if the number is being added to the EXIF.

Yup, this is a desktop software problem, not an issue with the camera. All the lens ID info and correction profiles are stored in the actual lens

Thanks, that makes sense and helps me narrow down the issue.

Desktop problem. I've spent this afternoon sending EXIF data for exiv2 so someday Darktable can work better. Sigma 18-50 in photoshop fail...

Also exiftool fails with some Sigma lenses. But keep updating and IIRC exiftool is also open source, you can write a bug report.

That's because Sigma reuses lens codes. Tamron too.
