Advice for ONE more lens

Hi everyone,

I bought some lenses for my K-30 and plan to buy just one more lens.

My lenses:

Walimex Pro 8mm/f3.5 Fisheye (german version of samyang/rokinon)
smc Pentax-DA 16-45mm f4 ED-AL
smc DA Pentax 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 ED AL IF DC WR
smc DA Pentax 50mm f1.8
Pentax Asahi smc Pentax-M 50mm f1.7
Tamron AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2

I am looking for a lens which I can use for astrophotography and lenscape. Any suggestions?
I also plan to sell my K-30 and buy a K-3. If that matters

Phil

Budget-wise you have covered just about every length. I recommend a Macro but since you want some landscaping and astro, I'd pick up a 12-24 f4 or sigma 10-20.

One is the Samyang 14mm f2.8. Make sure you can send it back if you don't get a good copy, though.

You have everything you need, you are now only after what you want. About the only thing I could possibly advise for you is an ultra wide rectilinear lens, to close the gap between your fisheye and 16-45mm. Here I must bow to the superior wisdom of those who own such lenses as I neither have, need, nor want such a lens and cannot speak from experience.

Maybe DA 15/4 Limited for an UWA lens that is not fisheye?
Or a 14/2.8?

If it's for critical astrophotography, make sure the lens has good coma correction (coma is a type of optical aberration). This will assure that stars appear as small points across the whole frame.

I've seen good results from the Samyang/Rokinon 16mm f2, very fast lense that is wide and sharp wide open, with very good coma correction.

Based on what you have the Tamron 10-24.

Seconding the recommendation for the Sigma 10-20.

Edit : but keep in mind that I use mine for landscape.

Primes are usually better than zooms for astrophotography: less coma distortion and less internal reflection. The Samyang 14 or 16 are good choices. For daytime landscapes the Pentax DA 15 is better than the Samyangs.

Prioritize landscape or astro, then pick.

I'm with clackers on this one. I also have the 16-45 and the 8mm. The Samyang 14mm f/2.8 is a very well respected lens in the astro community. I don't think any of the UWA zooms are sharp enough at the more-open apertures required for quality astro work.

The Samyang 14 if you want the best for astro. But if you're trying to make one lens stretch for multi-use, the Sigma 10-20.
