Sigma 24mm. f2.8 Superwide 2 not sharp.

Bought this lens a couple years ago thinking it might be a decent landscape lens on my K01. After testing it along side my Pentax DA 16-45 zoom I find it not to be as sharp at 24mm as on my zoom. Tested at several different lens openings. Did I just get a bad copy?

I had the old manual focus version and now I have the newer AF one and both are very sharp wide open. If your isn't then it's either a bad copy or mis-focusing.

My AF sigma 24mm superwide II is very sharp. However, the DA 16-45 zoom is also quite sharp for a zoom, so the images you get from the zoom versus the prime might be fairly close

i've had at least five of those lenses, it's a sharp piece of glass, but prone to decentering.

were you using af?

post up a *full size* pic that you don't like, get some feedback from people.

did you use live view to focus the pics?

check out the test photo for this lens on the a7r, blow it up to 100% view, you can see the decentering issues, but it's always sharp in the center: 24mm lens sample variation: Three Sigma 24mm lens and three Canon FDn 24mm lenses compared

if you can't achieve center sharpness by f/5.6 or so, using live view, i'd try shining a flashlight into the lens, and see if it's hazy or something.

Mine is sharper than my DA 16-45 at 24mm. You could have an exceptional DA 16-45.

nice info, thanks for sharing. In my test, I found Sigma 24mm to be a sharp lens (at least sharper than Pentax A24 and M24-35).
