What was this lens used for?

I was given this lens. The pre-set aperture (10 blades) only opens out to F4,a bit limiting. Is this just a very cheap old M42 lens? Apologies for having two sets of images. I never seem to get uploads right and am not sure how to delete the extras.

The lens in the photos has a minimum focusing distance of 5 feet (1.5 meters).

It is plausibly a T-mount lens: the screw thread does not fit m42, although diameter is also 42mm. Don't force if it does not fir the M42-K adapter, you might need a T-m42/K adapter.

It looks like it was used to stir pancake batter.

It appears to be already fitted with a M42 mount. Certainly it screws into my (genuine) Pentax M42/K adapter.

It is a very light lens and I would assume it is aluminium and the anodise has not stopped it from corroding.

Good. I said that because I have one lens looks very like yours and mine is T mount.

Standard t-mount preset lens probably from 1960's.

How to use t-mount, preset lenses.

Hanimex is a reseller name, when you come across a lens like this it's always worth first doing a search on forum - just go to the third party lens reviews page and click on search - and then googling just the specs 105mm f4, or with other names of the era like sankor, mayfair, palinar, prinzgalaxy ........... to see what comes up. This lens seems uncommon I didn't bring up anything. Some similarity to this sankor lens though

Sankor ( series E, Mayfair etc...) preset, t-mount 135mm f2.8 or 3.5 Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

which is a good lens actually so take some pics and check it out.
The external corrosion isn't nice but if its ok internally - no matter!

it would make an interesting outdoor portrait lens, with the round aperture. clean it up and give it a try. it is a lens manufactured and rebranded for many stores to put their own front badge on, Not sure who makes them.

In a word, yes!

Apparently made by Tokina:

FS - Tiny 100/4 portait lens - Tokina made in M42 - Hanimex

(That links to the link that @marcusBMG added.)

By the looks of it, as a door stop I'd say or maybe an ornament in an aquarium or most likely as an anchor for deep sea fishing

Palinar (Tokina?) 100/4 M42 preset - the smallest Tokina ?
Looks like an interesting lens. Possibly very sharp, I shall have to get it out in the sun and try it out. Thanks for the information.

there is a lot of grit on top of the focusing ring? i would run a vacuum cleaner with brush over the outside, and make sure that there is nothing inside that'll fall out into your camera.

i've had that happen with the a7r, junk fell and stuck onto the sensor, despite first cleaning the rear glass, and blowing the back out with a rocket blower.
