Four has me confused. Three is my preferred number. DA21 f3.2, DA35 f2.4, DA70 f2.4

Bringing a fourth, as I sometimes have to due to speed or superwide requirements, blurs my ability to see the best perspective. I end up hesitating which breaks the "flow" which primes offer against zooms. I like to look as little as possible through the viewfinder. Swapping out the 35 for 15 or 50 works.

My 4 lens set up is DA limited 20-40, Voigtlander 58, DA* 50-135, and DA*300. It covers 95% of what I want. Have thought about trading the 50-135 and 300 for the 150-450 but there is something to say about light weight when backpacking or hiking, and bounced around the idea of adding a macro to replace my DA35ltd but haven't pulled the trigger. I do find having a limited number has helped me learn the ins/outs of them.

It's surprising how small a camera bag you can take and still fit all that in. I have a smallish Lowepro which will JUST take my K-5 with an 18-250 or similar lying down. With the bag suitably divided, I can fit any three of those lenses in a stack in the smaller section with the fourth on the camera. If I wanted to, I could stuff the three into various pockets of my Tilley travel vest and leave the camera bag at home. For walking around a big city, without all that many wide-open spaces that need a long zoom, this is almost ideal.

This is pretty close to my kit and very close to my ideal. I've got:
HD DA 20-40
DA* 50-135
DA40mm f2.8 limited --> Replace with the DA*55mm f1.4 or FA43mm f1.9 Limited?
Vivitar 400mm f6.3 --> replace with a DA*300mm + HD1.4x TC.

I occasionally wish for something wider, but for the most part the 20-40 is great while being a handy walkaround lens. I could also see using this setup:
DA*16-50
DA*50-135
DA*300mm + HD 1.4x TC
DA10-17mm fish

if I could leave the DA40 on my film body.

If I went all primes, it would be the 21 limited, 40 limited, *55, and the Tamron 90 macro.

I'm not sure that I wouldn't substitute the DA 10-17 for the 40 if pushed.
