135mm Takumar manual lens

Hi,
Well firstly I have to say what a great site this is. So many helpful and knowledgeable people - thank you!

Having recently taken the plunge and bought a K200D , I still have a number of earlier Pentax 35mm SLR's , and plenty of lenses it seemed the way to go.

I have been reading that the consensus view about the 135mm Takumar lens wasn't too positive... I have found the pictures to be quite reasonable if you take control of the settings.hopefully the two I have attempted to post show up.!

The first is with the great old favorite a smc pentax a 50mm 1:1.17 with skylight filter.- a lovely lens
the second is with the takumar 135mm 1: 2.5mm a somewhat more softer lens, to which I have a skylight filter.

I've also found a Sears 80mm-200mm macro lens, which has a KR fitting - and wondered if anyone knew if this would work with the K200D ?

Not sure if the KR fitting is a Ricoh fitting. If it is, be careful. I've read horror stories about them getting stuck on Pentax bodies, and having to be cut off.

There used to be a regular thread on DPReview about this problem and the detailed steps required to fix it. So, beware.

Mark Roberts' fine site has this information about the Ricoh lenses and compatibility. Scroll down and there's an explicit warning to avoid KR lenses.

I had a Tak 135 2.5 and thought it was a nice lens. I also have the Pentax SMC-A 135 2.8 and kept it over the Tak since it was auto aperture.

The Takumar 135/2.5 has got an old version of pentax' smc coating, which is not as effective as the smc on newer modells. The later K 135/2.5 is a very fine lens, razor sharp, even on digital.

Why didn't you start this thread 5 weeks ago, when I had a chance to buy a brand new copy, right off the shelves of a store closing it's doors

It was dustier than you could imagine, and hidden at the back of the shelf. I only saw it because 3/4 of the shelf was sold, making it visible.

I could have probably gotten it for $75.00 or so, but I hummed and hawed about it, knowing that the Takumar K-mount lenses have a bad reputation as inferior IQ.

On the good side, it might still be around. And if it is I might be able to obtain it in the next couple of week / months

I recommend you to get the Super Tak 135mm f/3.5 instead. Or even the Pentacon Electric 135mm f/2.8 (These sell for 5$ on ebay sometimes).

In my humble opinion, the 135mm f/3.5 blows the f/2.5 away and it is cheaper, go figure.
