Look for reviews of the Tamron 24-70mm. Also, I'm sure that more Pentax-specific reviews will surface once the FF is out

DxO Mark may be a helpful element in your market research, but I would not give them any more credence than other reviews. IMHO their methodology is invalid and does not reflect real world results of the lenses they review. Mini-rant over! On a practical note, you may want to consider renting before purchase or seeing if you can find a brick and mortar Pentax dealer to give the lens a once over before purchase. Most B&M stores will match or come close to online pricing if asked.

Well in that he also says that 150-450 is good value for money. And says that sigma 150-500 is viable option less than half the prize, but lacking lot that 150-450 has. I know that you said tamron 150-600. But still some lenses even if being expensive don't meet that criteria, and other way around.

Just 1 that I can find.

He gives it the same grade as the Tamron 150-600...a lens that costs half as much...

Unfortunately Sigma has stopped making the 150-500...I'm glad I got mine when I did...

I think you can definitely go off of Tamron reviews for the 24-70. Once the full frame camera is out I would expect a few more reviews as well.

I don't think it has been a oft purchased lens to this point. I think a lot of folks own a 28-75 and are sitting tight with that to see how it performs on the K-1 before they spend 1200 on a new lens.

the 24-70 walks all over 28-75. Guess that won't be any different on the FF

Considering that it's essentially just a rebadged Tamron, there's isn't all that much to review.

Apart from the users from this forum I am struggling to find some in depth reviews of the new DFA 24-70. Is that because the lens has only been out a short period of time, or that we have to await the FF release to see how it really performs?

I did own the Tamron 24-70 for my Canon. I shot it with a 6D and 7D. As you know from the DXO numbers the lenses generally do better and deliver higher numbers on full frame sensors. If the Pentax version is anything like the Tamron I owned, I would not hesitate to get it. I will see if I can dig up some pics (Canon of course) to share. I owned it for a year or so and sold it about 2 or so years ago when I switched to Pentax. I used it on a few paid gigs and shot a lot wide open without hesitation. The lens was sharp enough for critical work, even wide open!

That is the lens I missed most when I switched from Canon. I promised myself if Tamron ever released a K-mount version, I would get it. I did not figure that they will actually release it with Pentax logo on it. This would be the lens that I will pair up with the upcoming FF. The only downside is that my three amigos will end up on the shelf collecting dust. This lens paired up with the Pentax 70-200 (if budget allows) or even the older Tamron 70-200 (which is a bargain given the price, I have one and it is spectacular) will give most photographers all the glass they will need to deliver top notch professional results.

I think it would be more obvious on a full frame sensor, though. The 28-75 is a lens that benefits a lot from being shot on a crop sensor, as it has pretty weak borders on full frame. On a crop camera, it performs pretty well (for a comparison, Photozone has reviewed both the Tamron 28-75 and 24-70 on Canon full frame cameras).

Have you seen several formal reviews of the 150~450 outside this forum?
this is the problem with ricoh/pentax marketing, its almost its non-existent, its almost like they only wanna sell to camera enthusiasts and pentaxians :P

you do need to understand that all the rendering aspects of a lens, can't be summed up with a two digits score ...

People taking DxO as the final truth is just scary.

Best lenses for the Pentax K-3 according to DxO.

Sigma 35 ƒ1.4-- ya right , a big favourite here on the forum. Funny how the fastest lenses always come out best in the DxO ratings. not mentioned in the DxO ratings 31 ltd, 43 ltd and 77 ltd. simply some of the finest lenses ever produced. According to DxO mark the Sigma 35 gives you 2x the megapixels of a DA 15. Ya right, I believe that.

Good luck waiting for DxO to test the 24-70. I've had my 60-250 for close to four years now, and they still haven't tested it. Thinking like you, would have missed a lot of great images.

Compared to sites like IR, the warped rating system which truly can't be comprehended, the lack of lenses tested, and the way they inflate the differences between lenses to an outrageous level, they are truly the drama queens of the testing world.

Quite simply there isn't a perfect review or rating system.

I know this is a Pentax biased forum (in the nicest possible way!) so it might not be seen as the best place to read impartial reviews - but it is still my preference is to read the reviews on here, sifting through for common pieces of information that usually add up to the truth about a lens. You get to know the "review style" of some users, and if you can match their comments and feelings about a lens with one or two that you own then it is highly likely their review of a lens you don't own will be pretty accurate.
