Looking for a wide and tele-ish lenses

So I picked up the F 50mm f/1.7 for $99, so far I'm in love with it. Now looking for a wide and tele part. Saw an used Sigma 24mm Macro on Adorama, looked through the reviews here and thought it might be good. Its going for $124, is it a good buy? Or am I better off going with a Sigma 28-70 F/2.8 EX constant or Pentax 28-105 f/4-5.6??? I'm not going to need a long tele, and I'm keeping budget in mind, since Im currently on $300, so the one I buy has to last me for quite sometime, until I get money again. *off record: this forum is the greatest thing in the world for asking, outside of the Ubuntu forum *

If you consider 28mm wide (it really isn't on an APS-C camera by the typical definition), then I'd suggest the Tamron 28-300. It's not constant aperture, but for your budget it's a very convenient lens. I had one and loved it, but gave it up for the (much more expensive) 18-250. I found that I did use the range from 18-28mm so it made sense for me.

I dont really need the 300mm length, I shoot mostly close shots, so the 75mm of 28-75 is good enough for me, plus the f/2.8 constant is really nice

The 28-75 is good if 28 is wide enough for you. Note that 28 is 42 equiv, so it is not a wide perspective, more like normal. Check the degrees of framing you gain from 50 (75) to 28 (42). It may not be too much, but maybe enough for you. A 28-75 is more like a walk-around from normal to short tele perspective, but you might also consider a dedicated ultra wide zoom in the future, such as the DA12-24, sigma 10-20, or something in such ranges.

Do you have the kit lens? you can try it from 28mm above and see if it is wide enough.

No, I dont currently own the kit lens, but I sometimes need to step back a few paces to get a good (albeit tight) framing, the 42 sounds good enough for me...although I still have to go try it out....
