Wide angle question

Hi, I recently posted about suitable lens' for a K10D. I still can't get my head around the numbers involved SO, my current compact lens is 24-72 that much I know ! NOW, the photos I get from that lens is perfect in terms of wide angle. There is an adapter that can take it to 19 but that would be too much.

What would be the equevalent numbers I need to look for if I want a similar lens for the K10D ?

Could an adapter be bought for the kit lens to get a similar view ?

I do hope that make sense !?

you want the either the kit lens (18-55) or one of the various options of 16-50 or 17-50 that exist.

IF the 24-72 range you specify is the "35mm equivalent" of a point and shoot camera, or perhaps even the focal length range of a 35mm camera, then the equivalent for the K10D is 16-50mm.

24 / 1.5 = 16mm
72 / 1.5 = 48mm

Do you mean your compact camera lens is 24mm equivalent at wide angle? Are you sure? That's very wide for a compact camera. Most WA compacts are 28mm equivalent.

The Pentax 18-55mm kit lens is a bit longer at both ends, but you might find that 18mm is wide enough. IMO it would not make much sense to add an adapter, even if you could find one.

The Pentax 16-45mm lens is affordable and quite close to your specified range plus, it has better image quality than the 18-55mm. The Pentax 16-50mm is faster and sturdier than the 16-45mm and it's weathersealed, but pricey.

Hope this makes sense.
