No one agrees on whether the 55/1.8 is thoriated or not. I've not experienced yellowing with mine so I would say not. The only two M42 Takumars that are 100% confirmed as radioactive are the 7-element 50/1.4 and the 49mm filter thread 35/2.

Ahh well I guess I'll just look at it when I get it. Seriously though thanks all of you for the advice and help.
