Exactly, even now you can use it in MF mode. But if you still want AF just try to do like me with the gear from ebay

Yup, my 43 just broke one day, I took it off the camera and the focus ring was stuck like it was caught on something. AF was stuttering. I had heard about this issue before so my heart immediately sank.

I had another lens that needed cleaning and wasn't able to get into the lens myself so I gave my 43 to a local tech to get the gear fixed. He wasn't able to source the part from pentax and so just removed the cracked gear for me so I could still use the lens in manual focus.

I have a 77 that I have been delaying fixing. This makes sense, based on what its doing - I can manually rotate the focus a little either way then it stops.
Sounds like the problem I had. My FA77 also had an AF gear failure - though this is after 8 years of use without a single visit to be serviced.

The lens has been repaired and works beautifully now.

Maybe it is a good idea. For now I installed one from ebay and it works🤞🤞🤞
How difficult was it to take the lens apart? I'm willing to try with an ebay gear since no one seems to have the official part.
