Mamiya 80mm f1.9 Sekor C/N

Hi all!

I'll keep this short: I did preorder the K-1 and since I've only one lens (DA*55) which I'm able to use in FF, I want more. With buying the K-1 my budget for the lens is low - so the 77/1.8 doesn't fit in my budget rn (otherwise I'd buy it). Found that Mamiya 80/1.9 from internet and it seems to be sharp enough and rendering nicely - look at these (https://www.flickr.com/groups/673994@N21/pool/page1)! So I'm asking if someone here have had that lens or has taken photos with it, how it was? Just need a nice portrait lens and this could be it, what do you think? And yes, I'm aware I'd need an adapter to be able to use it in K-1.

Have you considered Samyang/Bower/Rokinon 85/1.4? Unlike the Mamiya, it has A contacts, so it will be much more convenient and won't blow your budget the way FA 77 would. alternatively, you can consider something like SMC Takumar 105, which also renders very nicely and is not that different from 80 on FF.

What about to look on eBay for used Sigma 85mm f1.4? It's something like compromise between FA77 and Samyang, with the advantage of AF.

There are many interesting pics made with this lens, but I'm wondering on how much of its appeal comes from the 645 format.. So would the magic be lost when using it in a such a small format.

If you end up sourcing this lens, let me know to beg for a test drive with my M645j once I happen to stumble upon your city .

I had a copy of that lens I used with my Mamiya 645-1000s body. I shot a lot of weddings back in the day with that setup, which allowed me to get interior shots without flash. It has a very warm color rendition and a nice bokeh. Soft-ish wide open, but sharpened up almost immediately at 2.8. Would probably make a great portrait lens on a FF or APS-C. I haven't shot film for a while, but I'm beginning to wish I hadn't sold my 645 kit. But then I wouldn't have some of the nice Pentax glass I have now!
