Pentax long prime update for FF ?

Hi guys,
for the ones who are interested in wildlife photography and birding, if Ricoh was going to make a new supertele prime as an update for former FA supertele primes, what should it be?
DFA 300 f2.8 ?
DFA 400 f4 ?
DFA 500 f4 ?
DFA 600 f5.6 ?

What should be the one that Ricoh make so that it covers most use cases ?

My mouth is watering at the thought of a DFA 500 f4.

Why not a DFA* 400/2.8? Otherwise I would like a 600/4 not 5.6! (Since we discuss what we would prefer!...)

A 300mm F2.0 sounds good to me!

Pentax may have been nearly there back in 1977...

Non of them. I'd dream about remake of FA* 250-600.
But even then I'd use it with APS-C instead of K-1.

And weight would be serious point for me. I'm not sure I'd like to carry a lens with (very probably) more than double weight (compared to my DA560) and reach (appearing as) divided by 1.5 crop factor (when on FF).

With my APS-C and DA560 I get equivalent reach like with 840mm on FF.
Should I use 600mm on FF, it's like having 400mm on APS-C. So let's say something like DA*300 + 1.4x TC.

But DA*300 + 1.4x TC is 1.2 kg.
And FA*600 was 6,8 kg.

From quite formal sources I can tell you that a new FA* 250-600/5.6 is out of question due to the fact that this exotic lens was the most demanding and complicated tele-zoom Pentax ever made... I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A NEW ONE but this is the reality!

On the other hand a FA* 600/4 is not out of question. I think that since the K-1 will be a success it will spark the flame to Pentax-Ricoh to regain the glamor of the past and such pro-level lenses will be indispensable. A new tech 600mm prime could use materials and glass that would significantly reduce its weight, so I would bet Pentax could make it less than 5kg nowadays...

For me 300 isn't long enough for my bird shots and 600 is too long. With a 600 I'd have to stand in the neighbors yard to shoot my birds or across the river to get the wading birds/herons, and such. So something in the 400 to 500 range would be nice. Though even 500mm is too long. I had a 100-500mm once and the 500mm was too much lens. So, I guess a 400mm would be just right, maybe. I don't know what I meant to say here but the longer lenses just don't work for where I shoot. But the shorter ones don't either.

I am confused by the title, and the proposed lenses.

Except for a 300/2.8, I do not believe Pentax made any of the other proposed lenses before so it is not, a "remake" but a wish list of lenses.

Given what Pentax has presently with the 560/5.6 and their new zoom that goes out to 450mm at F5.6, this negates the request for many of these new lenses.

Furthermore, most people will, for long wildlife shots use a cropped sensor any way.

Would we like more options. Perhaps, but really a 400/2.8 or 600/4 would likely be the real wanted lenses, along with , as someone mentioned a 250-600/5.6. Those three, which Pentax has made in the past, would be a good remake

I thought the DA 560mm was already FF compatible, despite not having "DFA" label.

With Pentax offering FF compatible 200 f/2.8, 300 f/4 and 560 f/5.6, the obvious omissions are a 400 mm lens (either f/2.8 or f/4) and a 300 f/2.8.

I'd love to see a D-FA* 400mm f2.8

I'd probably never be able to afford such a lens, nor would I enjoy lugging it in the backwoods with me...
I'd still love to see it!
