Rear focusing 16-45 -- abnormal?

Hi all,

Took my 16-45 (just acquired, very lightly used) on vacation -- in Sweden right now. Sitting at the airport I tried to take a few shots of my little girl and they seemed very soft/blurry which had me wondering since I know the lens is supposed to be pretty damn sharp even wide open. So I did some informal testing at various distances and realized it was rear/back focusing something fierce. I had to set the adjustment to +8 and now it yields what appears to be dead on sharp results from what I can judge at 10x on the LCD.

I thought the DA lenses wouldn't need any/much adjustment. Did I get an odd one or has anybody else experienced this? It was really only noticable wide open or maybe 5.6 -- past that the DOF covered up any sins.

By the way, the lens is obscenely sharp at 6.7 -- took a wide angle distant shot of my dad grilling and I could read the time off his watch when zoomed in... :-)

That's normal. You have a K20 thats a little more poorly constructed than most. I have a few lenses that can't be brought into focus at all because of the shitty construction of the K20. For now, I just use them as manual focus lenses. I should really just send the thing in and get Pentax to fix the thing.

Ouch. It does focus my Sigma dead on every time with zero adjustments.
