Do we have any M-100mm f:2.8 fans here?

I happen to be lucky enough to find one of these little jewels on CL for $30.00..... and as Lt. Joe Kenda would say, "My, my, my!" Small, extremely well built, smooth as silk and oh.... SO sharp! I dare to say, other than my FA 50 & 100mm macros, probably as sharp as any other lens I have.

It seems to be very easy to hit the focus, dead-on, with ease, even with my old, tired eyes. It's just such a joy to use. But, I suppose I'm biased in my opinion, because I love some of these older, manual focus Pentax-M lenses. I wonder why it is that some of them seem easy to nail the focus and some aren't. Or.... is that just my imagination and my less than stellar eyesight?

I keep putting it off sending it to dcshooter to have it cleaned, as it has a fair amount of internal dust. It doesn't seem to effect the IQ, but maybe that's because I've never shot an image with one that's dust-free, you suppose?

for... how much!?!? 0_o

I'm a big fan...
A friend of mine is a Nikon shooter and always speaks about his Nikon-E, saying that it's wonderful and absolutely tiny.
Well guess what? I checked and "ours" 100/2.8 is even smaller, by a hair!!!
I'm curious about IQ, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Pentax turned out to be waaay better than the Nikon...

Also a big fan of this lens. Don't remember where I got it, or how much I paid for it. Mine has very minimal dust, if any.

$30 is a nice price for this jewel of a lens.... I recently bought a copy of the M100/2.8, along with an M135/3.5 (the Quebec sisters) and it's a real sweetheart of a lens:

The M85/2 and 100/2.8 are both excellent - and the latter can be a great deal in part because it's not the 85 I've owned and enjoyed both, but financial times sent them away; hopefully one will return to me in a few months!

I have a copy owned since brand new in the late 70's. It used to live on my K2. A fine lens that I don't use as much as I used to, since I have other great modern glass in the same range. The clip on lens hood broke soon after I first attached it. I epoxied a stepdown ring onto it and turned it into a screw on hood that has held up to this day.

If I get a group of lenses together by focal length to compare them, I can sort them by wide-open sharpness just by how easy they are to focus. I'll look at the test shots side by side to be sure, but I'm always right. So when I have a lens that's very easy to nail focus, I figure it's because the lens is sharp wide open.

If you find an M120/2.8, get that one too. I think it's like combining all the good parts of the M100/2.8 and M135/3.5 - 8 blades, 1.2m minimum focus, integral hood.

Dewman, I'd say $30 is a very good price for this lens!

I have one, and it often gets tucked into my bag on trail hikes - it's fairly small and easy to carry. This image was one of several I took during a chance encounter - I was glad to have had the M 100/2.8.

Hope you get plenty of enjoyment from yours.

- Craig

Same goes for the M150 and M200.

I tried both 50-100-150 and 50-85-135 triplets, hard to really pick a winner - though at times f/2 can be mighty handy

I bought mine new, over 35 years ago. That, along with my M20 F4, bought around the same time aren't going anywhere

I bought my M 100/2.8 a few years ago because I figured I'd never own a fast 85mm. About a year later I found an 85/2 for around 150% the price of the 100, so I bought it and have barely used the 100 since. I took a couple of shots with it the other day, but I only had it with me because I was meeting a guy to try to sell it to him. He hasn't bitten yet so I still have it.

I don't consider it that sharp wide open but it's certainly useable and is sharper than the Takumar 105mm f/2.8. At f/4 is really sharp.

Now I'm thinking I should make some time to use it a bit in the next few days to be sure of my decision on selling it or not....

Edit: I just found a small group dedicated to this lens on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/groups/2458235@N25/

I've had it for a while, and it's a fantastic lens.
