Most of my shots taken with the 50mm have been in the range of f/2.0 to f/2.8
All were beautifully sharp. This lens has always performed for me.
I've even taken a few at f/1.4 and was surprised at the results.
Even if for the same quality images, the extra length does sound like a great advantage.

dont forget the price differences tho

the 50mm is simply the obvious choice if you ARE price conscious.

And there is the rub, at $200 it's a super buy.

The more i think about it the more i feel maybe it's just the length of the 77 that makes it so appealing, it's just long enough but not too long so you can use f/1.8 and still get enough of a face in focus.
