I have the Sigma 24-70/2.8 and it's also large and has the 82mm filter, but it doesn't feel out of place on the K-3 with a grip, which I always use. I wouldn't use a grip with the K-1, so it would probably feel about the same. Hefty, sure, but not inappropriately so.

Is the 24-70mm f2.8 a little too big and heavy for your taste ? Although this lens looks compact in the pictures, this is a huge lens that weighs almost 2 pounds and has an 82mm filter. That is about twice as heavy as the 18-135mm. If you attach this lens to the K-1 you might as well call it a Studio camera. I don't know are there any other lenses as heavy and big as this in Pentax's current lineup ?
This is the trade off with FF cameras and quality glass. Ricoh appears to have done an excellent job in keeping the K1's form factor as compact as is reasonably possible, but there is of course some additional weight and bulk - and quality full frame glass is going to be bigger and heavier too. If that doesn't suit a photographer's requirements, a K3 / K3II with DA* 16-50 f/2.8 (or Sigma 17-50 f/2.8, or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8) is the logical choice. It's one reason why the K3/K3II and future APS-C models will continue to appeal to many...

I have a Sony A99-based Hasselblad HV with Sony Zeiss 24-70, and it's probably not much different in size and weight to the K1 plus 24-70 (if anything, I'd guess my setup is a little heavier). I certainly wouldn't say it's a studio-only camera. I wouldn't want to carry it around all day without a break or two, but with a decent strap or sling, it's OK for a few hours' shooting...

EDIT: While I prefer my BlackRapid Curve RS-7 sling for my K3 + grip + lens, I've found I'm happier with an OP/TECH Pro strap on the Hasselblad - worn over the shoulder until I'm ready to shoot, then worn around the neck for shooting. The wide foam band on the OP/TECH Pro is very comfortable with a heavier camera...

Canon 5d mkIII + 24-70 f/2.8 = 1665gm
Nikon D810 + 24-70 f/2.8 = 1780gm
Pentax K-1 + 24-70 f/2.8 = 1711gm

Looks like they hit a sweet spot.

Even K3 + 16-50 is already 1.3Kg... So that less weight but still...

Only if you go dow to say a K-S2 + a 17-50 from tamron would you go down ot 1.1kg... I guess that time the difference start to add up and be quite visible. You miss WR, no super sonic motor... and more than 1EV high iso performance difference. One can't have everything.

Thant's why anyway I am not that interrested in the FF... 24-70 stop at 70, very short on FF... Now look at the size/weight you need for longer focal length !

Good point. And k-1 + 28-105 is 1364gm Almost the same.......... Not f/2.8 but still.............

And k-3 + 16-85 is 1270gm which is what I carry now. Thanks, now I feel much better. K-1 + 28-105 will be 94gm heavier.

I'm one who's into Pentax for small stabilized primes. That won't change for me with the K-1. I didn't want giant fast zooms for APS-C, and I certainly won't want them for FF!

I have handled a friend's Tammy 24-70/2.8. It felt solid and well made, and he gets great results. Just not my cup of tea!

How about small and reasonably fast zooms?

I'm hoping for DFA lenses similar to these, but with better build and updated optics. I don't need an f/2.8 monster either but that does not mean I don't want the same image quality. Just in a smaller and slower package.

I am going to start with:
FA 20-35 = 245gm
F 24-50 = 380gm
FA 24-90 = 355gm

Will they be good enough on the K-1?
I can speak of the 24-90mm on a K-3ii. Nice travel lens! Great for portraits and general (not wide) shooting. The edges are a touch soft, but they are just acceptable on crop sensor. On full-frame I'm convinced that people are going to whine and moan about this otherwise sweet little lens. But it will still be a good choice for portraits on the K-1: center is very sharp and it exhibits good bokeh. If I end up adding a K-1 to my kit, I predict I will likely use it for outdoor events and be happy with both its quality and limitations. After all, when I want to travel light, I bring my sweet little Nikkor 24-85mm VR on my D800 and it never lets me down!

YMMV
