DA 55-300 Delay

Whats with the DA 55-300? I read so many people expecting it but only few actually able to get it (and even then the last one i heard from was some month ago).
I've emailed some shops which list the lens in their homepages but they have no idea when they be able to get and ship the lens.
Is it in production at all?

I received mine last week. After going to Calumet's site where they show the lowest price but can't ship, I finally went to good old amazon and got it in less than a week. Try them, they are pretty straight forward. I really haven't given the lens a good test as the weather in the northeast has been crummy. But it seems to be everything it's supposed to be.

Yes, the lens is available from a few internet vendors, but there does not seem to be widespread availability. Nobody has it locally (in the Los Angeles market). Calumet has one in Escondido (north San Diego county), and could have it shipped, but there are no stores in the vast Los Angeles market that have it in stock.

Something is "funny" about the availability of this lens. It has been out for awhile, and supply should be abundant, but it is not. It's not like it is a * lens.

Only thing that comes to mind is either parts availability, factory troubles, or extra care being taken due to the DA*16-50 fiasco.

I wanted one this weekend, but since nobody had it, got the 18-250 instead.

Try Berger Brothers (Photography and Electronics Stores - We are experts in all the products we sell.). I'm pretty sure they have them in stock. They list it at $349.99 on their website, but will most likely match a lower local price (B&H, Adorama).

Amazon.com: Pentax DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras: Electronics

$308 at Amazon, in stock.

Seriously, they're the first place I check. If they don't have it, then I start digging.

Absolutely check Amazon first. I didn't look there because I figured that would be the first place everyone would check. I just assumed they were out of stock too. The 30-day price guarantee is worth it...

It's such a shame Amazon won't ship camera gear outside the US.

Try vPost. Lots of us in Singapore use it. They also have the service available for those living in Australia.

Got mine a few weeks back, after a little wait on back order, from Amazon for $349. That's where I start, too. But, Willoughby's is even cheaper.

They are coming through in the EU, but slowly. I've just been notified that mine has been shipped to me.

You don't say which country you're in, if we knew, maybe we can be more helpful.

I guess that Pentax are selling all they can make. Not a bad situation to be in!
