I think thats pretty neat, and really a good idea if you think about it. what better way to show that you make lenses just as good as leica and zeiss than to make a leica mount rangefinder lens? a leicaphile with a pentax lens? ha! that says allot about the quality of pentax glass.

Comes in silver too

Voe, that the black version of the 43mm for Leica.

There's a Singapore seller selling the even cooler silver version of the 43mm.

WOW, it is much cooler in silver!!!

Did you notice that it says Special instead of Limited?

I wish Pentax could make a digital rangefinder and use those beautiful pancakes. But that's another story

I suddenly feel jiped off here
I'd love to buy one of those in a Pentax mount, but it looks like Pentax didn't feel their own customers deserved them

what would we do with an M39 rangefinder lens? besides we do have that lens: FA 43mm 1:1.9 Limited. granted I would love to see such a lens in M42 so it could be used on a Spotmatic or maybe just a K mount manual version as to get that wonderfully well dampened, long throw of a manual focus lens but all that aside we still have the ability to capitalize on those glorious optics. this makes me want a 43mm ltd. even more.and I must say, that silver looks slick.

At least Leica (and Cosina) are still making film cameras...

I meant for Pentax to design a K-mount rangefinder. I guess it would be very hard because of the K-mount lens register to the sensor/film, but still it is a dream camera for me.
Just a imagine a small Leica look rangefinder with a Pentax pancake.. how cool is that?!

If they ever manage to produce this, I gues it will sell... umm.... like hot pancakes and they will definitely sell a lot of pancakes

Because it's some of the best glass around
There are several Sigma owners whom have modified their cameras to accept Leica glass for that very reason. Although then they're stuck buying some very expensive lenses.

That would mean something on the back of the lens would have to be communicating focus distance information to the rangefinding doohickey on the camera. There's nothing there on K-mount lenses and no way to get it there. Of course, there is always the option of going really, really old skool and having an uncoupled rangefinder. You would have to use the rangefinder on the camera body to find the distance and then directly eyeball the lens while you set the focus via the distance scale markings. I love all that old junk and even I don't want anything to do with an uncoupled rangefinder.

the LTM mount 'special' version as pictured uses the exact same optical formula as the FA K mount version. pentax has never made a rangefinder and never will so why do you want this lens? unless you own a leica mount rangefinder, in that case there are a few on ebay right now. it was a Japanese home market lens only so its expensive as hell, but available. I admit its gorgeous, but useless for the K mount user. and as I said this kind of lens goes a very long way in showing the superb quality of pentax lenses, and that can only be a good thing.

Im certainly no leicaphile but that is gorgeous. then again so is a black MX and FA 43mm ltd.

FWIW Pentax received some patents for and was rumored to be planning a 35mm rangefinder camera about ten years ago.
