These guys sell adaptors for Zeiss Contax MM and Leica R lenses to be used on K-mount cameras. I'm trying to stop myself buying a nice Leica Summicron 90 to use on my MX and K10D as we speak...

Looking for a source for (ideally) silver 49mm filters for this lens.

Any recommendations on best place to buy?

Just got my FA 43mm f/1.9 ltd.!

opened the box a few hours ago and i'm LOVING it already! it's so small and handy, and the focal lenght is suited for nearly everything!

here's a few shots, all made in crappy light 8D

my dad

my sister attempting to brush her teeth

this one i softened up a bit in lightroom by decreasing clarity.

this is a 20 second exposure of how it looks around my place at night:

i looked at that photograph with 100% crop, and the detail was _amazing_. i love how it renders.

i'm so going to wear this out!

The lens is amazing. And I especially love the second two photos... I've done night photos with my 43 and agree, it's exceptional doing that...

Glad you liked them, Nesster. I was shocked at the detail, frankly. This is from another world compared to the kit lens.

43mm Limited images, anyone?

.

Have an opportunity to pick up a 43ltd for a good price - can anyone who has
one post a few of their favorite shots with it and maybe talk about why they
like/dislike it? I've owned the DA 40ltd, and it was excellent, but I sold it
because I liked using my 50's more or the speed/DOF - the 43ltd might be
the best compromise.

(May need to sell some more stuff if the images call to me. Anyone want a
recently lake-dunked Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 once the fog clears from the elements?
)

I don't own the lens (but I'd like to own it) but here's some photos that are in flickr and tagged with smcpfa43mmf19 Flickr: Pentax SMC - Official Tag Required content tagged with smcpfa43mmf19

I find flickr quite handy when searching for sample photos from different lenses or even films.

I use mine for all sorts of stuff, walking around and shooting, day and night. It does out-resolve any Takumar or other 50 I have, pretty consistently, at equivalent apertures. And is much more flare resistant. And it's tiny. And cute. Really takes to film. On the downside, the main one I have is that I wish it focused a bit closer. Sometimes bokeh could be smoother. That's about it. Really my best lens, overall.

i know you have experience with the other FA Limiteds

first of all the lens isn't that sharp in the corners until the smaller apertures. our old friend Blende8 (where is he now?) did a neat resolution test: Voigtländer Ultron 40/2.0 vs Pentax DA40 and FA43

supposedly the lens was built to have more of an "old world" rendering. i'm not sure what this means really, but a lot of people are impressed by the contrast and the 3D-ish look of the photos. i think out of the three FA Limiteds, the images "pop" the most out of my Camera's LCD screen. I found an old post of Jame's here http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036&message=22537867

i used the lens extensively on my last trip to the UK and it was a great walkabout length. personally i prefer lenses aroudd the 70mm-e mark and this lens did great. i did notice that at weird times the AF was off. not really sure why or how to explain it :/

the one criticism is the rough bokeh. initially this was the reason why a lot of people bashed the lens. have to be careful about the backgrounds

The FA43ltd is one of two reasons I still shoot pentax and IMHO the finest "normal lens" (40-60mm) regardless of brand.

A few samples,

Here was one of my first test shots with my K10D

I've found that focus isn't always where I want it to be wide open (seems to focus ever so slightly behind what I'm intending to focus on) but otherwise the rendering is wonderful.

Just picked up an A 50mm F1.7 and loving the long throw of the focus ring compared to the FA lenses (although it does make focus slower for me; guess practice makes perfect).

I had one for a while, but wound up trading it in on a DA35 macro for the macro. Sometimes, I wish I still had it, but I find it hard to justify having 2 prime lenses so close together in focal length (sigh). Anybody care to justify have both lenses for me?

Heather
